The South Carolina EPSCoR/IDeA Program is committed to enhancing the quality and excellence of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology (SMET) education and research through broadening participation by underrepresented groups and institutions. The SC EPSCoR/IDeA Program aims to increase the participation and advancement of underrepresented minorities and minority-serving institutions, woman and girls, and persons with disabilities at every level of the science and engineering enterprise.

The SC EPSCoR Program recognizes that academic institutions wBenedict Researchersith significant minority student enrollments play a vital role in conducting research that contributes to our knowledge base in all disciplines, and in educating minority students who go on to careers in fields of science, mathematics, engineering, and technology. The SC EPSCoR/IDeA Program has begun to make substantial resources available to increase the capabilities of research-productive minority-serving institutions, including the production of new knowledge, increase of research productivity of individual faculty, and to expand a diverse student presence in SMET disciplines.
