The (Department of Energy) DOE/EPSCoR Program sponsors two types of
grants: 1) implementation grants, and 2) state-laboratory
partnership grants. Implementation grants are for a maximum period
of six years with an initial grant period of three years. The
state-laboratory partnership grants are for a period of one to three
years. To maximize the effectiveness of the program, the development
of science and engineering manpower component is closely coupled
with the basic research part of the program. The program places
particular emphasis and priority on collaboration by the state
faculty with scientists from the DOE national laboratories where
unique scientific and technical capabilities are present.
Since 1998, South Carolina has
received more than $6.7 million from DOE/EPSCoR through two
Implementation awards and 14 Partnerships Program awards.
South Carolina currently has 2
